About Us
My name is Julia Pentecost, and I am the owner of Green Living by Design. I have 31 years of experience serving residential clients throughout the Greater Cincinnati Area. In those years I have learned that most clients I meet are looking for low maintenance, beautiful landscapes and outdoor living spaces. To achieve this, each project needs to be thoughtfully designed using more sustainable practices and maintenance concepts. This is why I started Green Living by Design.
What does GLBD do to promote sustainability?
Green Living by Design prioritizes the well being of future generations by selecting plants that will have longevity for years to come, building using natural materials whenever possible, and sourcing materials locally. We use the best possible maintenance practices for plants to reduce their vulnerability to disease and insect problems. Whenever possible, we use organic treatments over harsh chemicals to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our waterways. We are creative with our drainage and grading solutions to prevent overwhelming our local storm water systems. We use battery powered tools whenever we can. We partner with Green Umbrella + Queen City Commons + the Common Orchard Project to turn our yard waste into local compost. We save our pots and either reuse them ourselves, or donate them to other local growers, or donate them to Recycle Reuse Hub where they can be properly recycled. We believe that every small decision we can make to protect our shared environment has a big impact.

We help our clients create spaces that you can enjoy for many years to come because we have thoughtfully selected hardy, tried and true low maintenance plants. We have built the space using natural materials and good building practices. With our organic maintenance program you can confidently walk out side barefoot, let the kids play and the dog run without worry of toxic chemicals entering their skin. We are creative with drainage and grading projects to help water flow away from the home and deep into the ground. We want you to feel good about your landscape from the beauty, functionality, and the environmental sensibility.
